The People's Music Publishing House announced the results of the 2022 National "Ritual Music and Strings" Teaching and Research Competition. Out of more than 600 entries, students from UIC’s Guqin class won the third prize with their music piece “Zi Ye Wu Ge”. In addition, UIC Guqin instructor Ms. Mandy Li received the Outstanding Award in the category "Ritual Music and Strings” Teaching and Research Achievement Essay.
Their collaborative work of music, which included chanting in Mandarin and Cantonese, was recognized as great value to Southern Chinese culture and as a testimony of UIC's special curriculum and culture. Liang, a graduate student who participated in the music recording, wrote: “I was fortunate to feel a sense of character and moral integrity here. Studying Guqin at UIC is a unique experience in my life, and I hope I can carry this seed with me into the future to be a whole person”.
Ms. Mandy Li elaborated on her teaching content with a case report, suggesting that in the context of liberal arts education, the UIC Guqin course is an innovation in the practice of Whole Person Education, an attempt to explore the Lingnan culture, and a development of the Guqin transmission and inheritance in the modern educational environment.
