What do you think of when you hear “roaming the stars”? For UIC students and staff, the stars were the beautiful works of the students of UIC art classes.
Exhibition
At the exhibition, there were works from all of the Arts and Culture Development Centre’s elective classes. From December 2-6, nearly 1000 students’ final projects were displayed in an exhibition with the theme of “Roaming the Stars”.
Mural Creation Class
Classmate Deng’s work “The Jade Maiden in the Mural of Yongle Palace”
In this class, students learn the history of murals, the tools used to make them, and the thought processes needed for designing and creating them, finally creating their own works that combine vision and thought.
Glasscraft Design Class
Over the course of the glasscraft class, students not only learn enamel and mosaic techniques, but also develop their cognitive and aesthetic understandings of colour, and create beautiful works that combine traditional and modern techniques.
Huang Tong’s work “Tree Hole”
Meticulous Flowers and Birds Painting Class
In this class, students learn about the current developments, master the painting process and common techniques, and improve their understanding of ancient aesthetic thought present in the traditional art of meticulous flower and bird painting.
Classmate Zhuang’s work “New Life”
Film Arts Class
UIC’s Film Arts class helps improve students’ ability to select, appreciate, and analyse films. They are introduced to various unique and interesting presentations of narrative films, and analyse their audio-visual aesthetics and other, related art forms. At the end of the course, the students create a movie poster based on their own thinking about the movie

Classmate Feng’s work
Ancient Paper Art Class
Throughout this course, students learn the history of paper making, the making of paper pulp and the language related to it, cultivate creative thinking, enhance their understanding of traditional Chinese culture, and develop their artistic aesthetic.
Classmate Jiang’s work “Daydream”
Ceramic Art Class
The Ceramic Art class allows students to unleash their creativity and improve their aesthetic understanding, while also allowing them to appreciate the evolution of ancient Chinese ceramic art.

Wonderful Works Collection
Experiential Arts is one of the Experiential Learning courses in the Whole Person Education Office. Currently, students are required to take either an Experiential Arts or a Sports Culture related course in sophomore year.
Some students say that everyone at UIC is an artist, a result of UIC’s focus on whole person education.
