In November 2022 the UIC Yayue Orchestra participated in the first Zhuhai University Arts Season Competition series, winning two 3rd prizes in dance competition, as well as achieving two 3rd prizes in traditional music competition. Music performance “Wang Yue Po Luo Men” got “The Most Creative Prize”. UIC achieved “The Best Organization Prize” in this competition.

The dance performances were choreographed by Ms. Zhou Yanrui, dance teacher of SGE Whole Person Education Centre. “Shan Gui” expresses the love to welcome the gods for blessing, while “Wang Yue Po Luo Men” was inspired by the famous frescoes at the Dunhuang Grottoes in China’s Gansu Province.

The music performances were directed by Dr. Chia Ying Yeh and Mr. Cheng Lin Ko, Chinese traditional music teachers of SGE Whole Person Education Centre. “Kang Jin Ling” tells the story of Liang Hongyu, a woman who fought against the army of the Jin Dynasty. “Wang Yue Po Luo Men” incorporates a variety of traditional instruments to create music with multiple layers, representing the prosperous period of the Tang Dynasty.
Our students’ great performances at the competition reflects the success of UIC Whole Person Education and the spirit of UIC students. Members of the Yayue Orchestra will continue to work hard, accumulate more experience, grow on the stage, and showcase Chinese traditional culture on more and bigger stages.
