On 28th September 2022 the 9th Appreciation Ceremony was held on UIC campus with a participation of about 250 students and staff. The ceremony gives students the opportunity to learn and experience the ancient Chinese rituals for paying respect to teachers and understand the inner meaning of respect. It comprised a series of traditional rituals, including praises, saluting, serving tea, music and dance performances.
Ms. Xiaomi Zhou, Year 1 student of Communications, gave a speech on behalf of the participating students. She expressed gratitude to her teachers for their wise counsel and careful guidance, and teaching her to be a youthful adventurer who listens to the world and collects romance. She specially thanked her teacher Dr. Caili Lin, who not only helped her academically, but also taught her how to communicate with the world.
Prof. Tao Tang, President of UIC, gave a speech to address students. He encouraged them to follow the example of Confucius, never tire of learning, uphold the virtues, and strive to become a whole person. He further hoped that students would embrace traditional culture, enhance their cultural self-confidence, and uphold the virtue of respecting teachers, parents and others.
The ceremony was sponsored by the School of General Education, and organized by the Whole Person Education Center, the UIC Yuzhenjinsheng Yayue Orchestra, the UIC Nanhaiqingyin Guqin Club, and the Guangdong University Education Base for the Inheritance of Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture. It was attended by UIC President Prof. Tao Tang, Vice President Prof. Yaqing Mao, Vice President Prof. Weijia Jia, Associate Vice President Prof. Longpeilan Zuo, and other important members of the college.
