The 2019 Preliminary FLTRP Cup was a resounding success. UIC’s talent was on bright display September 24th, with eloquent and intense speeches. The contest began with an impromptu portion which led to a prepared speech. After the prepared speech contestants were required to answer hard questions from an attentive portion of the audience.
After 26 students participated in the impromptu round, the top 15 were awarded a chance in the final round. The topic for the final round was “My Big Story in 2049.” Contestants were expected to present a personal story to go along with China’s 100 year anniversary in 2049.
First-year student Thomas Li (IJ) won the contest with his eloquence. The judges particularly enjoyed his intonation and ability to answer a difficult question.
Celina (ACCT), a third-year student, was a close second with her passionate speech, and Cindy (FLL), another first-year student, placed third.
At the end of the competition, one of last year’s winners, Victoria (AE), gave a speech on her experience in the provincial round of the FLTRP Cup last year. In that contest, she was awarded “first runner-up.”
This year the winners and Victoria will have the opportunity to participate in the Provincial round of the FLTRP Cup in Dongguan on November 9th. The finals will be held in Beijing in December.
The FLTRP organizer Ian Liu said “the students were outstanding and performed well above expectations.”
