On September 21^st, 2023, the first School of General Education Board (SGEB) Meeting of academic year 2023-24 commenced successfully at 10:00 am at T6-105.

    The meeting was chaired by Prof. Stella CHO, Associate Vice President (Student Development) and Acting Dean of SGE, and attended by the Associate Deans Prof. Haipeng GUO and Prof. Hongyu WU, along with Prof. Lei SHI, Head of WPEC, Dr. Milen JISSOV, Head of GECC and Mr. Jonathan James CORBETT, Associate Head of ELC. All teaching staff of SGE attended the meeting except for those who were occupied with teaching assignments at the meeting period.

    Established in September 2022, School of General Education now has 150 staff with dedication to liberal arts education and aspiration for contributing to a broad general education curriculum. Following a warm welcome to the new staff joining SGE this semester, all members reviewed the School Annual Report and Centre Annual Reports and discussed the items listed on the agenda including academic matters, student activities, course development, big college-level events and strategic development of the school in the following academic year. Staff from the four centres of SGE (GECC, WPEC, ELC and CLCC) involved themselves proactively in the discussion, aiming to provide better learning experience to the students.  

    The meeting adjourned at 12:20 with the agenda items effectively discussed and approved by the members. Prof. Stella CHO delivered the closing remarks and extended appreciation to all the attendees of the meeting.

    With the joint efforts of its staff, School of General Education will continue to cultivate students’ intellectual and civic capabilities by offering continuously refined courses and quality guidance.
