2023 Guangdong Collegiate English Speaking Contest was held on October 28th, November 4th and 5th, 2023 at UIC.

    Over 600 participants attended the Writing, Reading and Translation Sub-contests online on October 28th 2023, and nearly 300 contestants from 68 universities/colleges in Guangdong Province joined the Speaking and Interpretation Sub-contests on Nov 4th and 5th, 2023 at UIC.

    Fifteen UIC students have participated in the Contest and achieved outstanding results, listed as follows:

  The three UIC students who won the Gold award in the Speaking and Interpretation Sub-contests respectively will continue to join, on behalf of Guangdong Province, the national Final Competition to be held in Beijing in December 2023.

    At the opening ceremony, Professor Yongming Zhou, Vice President (Academic) of UIC, expressed his hope for the contestants to take this competition as an opportunity to tell China’s stories in a diverse way, and to showcase a trustworthy, lovely, and respectable image of China as well as the positive and striving spirit of Chinese youth. He also said that UIC would strengthen communication with other universities in the future.

    Professor Stella Cho, Associate Vice President of UIC (Student Development) and Acting Dean of SGE, mentioned at the closing ceremony that the excellent performance of the contestants has left a deep and lasting impression on the audience. She also encouraged the participants to further cultivate their patriotism and enhance their professional skills after this competition. After the ceremony, Professor Stella Cho communicated with UIC students, congratulating on their achievements and offering some suggestions and guidelines about how to develop the speech content on multiple topics.

    Guests from the organizing and supporting parties of the competition also arrived at UIC. They are Mr Zhang Bing, Chief of the Higher Education Division from Department of Education of Guangdong Province, Ms Hou Hui, Deputy Publisher of Higher Education Publishing Branch of Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, and Professor Chen Jinshi, Secretary General of Guangdong Advisory committee of college English course teaching in higher education, Registrar of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.     

    2023 Guangdong Collegiate English Speaking Contest successfully concluded with the full support and active participation of UIC colleagues. Their unwavering dedication throughout the contest shows a promising picture for next year.
