The third “The World of English” Cup National English Writing Competition (online) for College students in 2023 ended on January 26, 2024. UIC sophomore student Gao Qiyue majoring in accounting, won the national first prize in Group C competition, and Dr. Gabby Cai guozhi won the award of excellent instructor.

The first “the World of English” Cup National English Writing Competition for College students was launched in 2021, which aims to improve college students' language application ability, cultural awareness and cross-cultural communication competence. Every year, the competition focuses on different topics to compete in English skills among college students. The organizer of this competition, the World of English Magazine, takes “life” as its theme, and hopes that students can learn more about the subject and improve their related abilities while honing their English writing skills.

This year's online competition has attracted about 6500 students across the country, including postgraduate students, undergraduates and junior college students. The National competition is divided into four groups: Group A for postgraduates, Group B for undergraduate and junior college students of English major, Group C for non-English major and Group D for non -English majors in higher vocational colleges.

After winning the award, Gao Qiyue recalled that through the study and accumulation of three semesters of EAP courses, she is more comfortable with the writing of English essay and the use of essay plan. And in this competition, she also uses the introduction-body paragraphs-conclusion structure of essay format, which she has learned in EAP, to make the article and main points clear.

She would also like to thank Dr. Gabby Cai Guozhi for her guidance in her daily EAP study and the preparation for the competition. She believes that the competition is a good way to use knowledge and test learning results, and can provide greater motivation for future English learning.
