A Taste of Chinese Archery

SGE staff at UIC engaged in a unique way of relieving the pressures of work - practicing traditional Chinese archery at the Yiyang Range under the expert guidance of Master Li. On October 23rd, 2024, twenty-two SGE staff members participated in this intercultural activity, generously supported by the UIC Union & HR.

Before gaining hands-on experience, the group were led on a tour of the cultural exhibition hall by Master Li. Here, the participants were introduced to the fundamental cultural aspects of Chinese archery. A bilingual video provided further insight, detailing how this course has evolved at UIC over the years, benefiting both staff and students alike.

Returning to the Yiyang Range, Master Li demonstrated the "Eight Steps of Shooting" to the assembled staff. Staff were divided into two groups, taking turns to ensure that each participant had an equal opportunity to practice the shooting techniques. This was complemented by personalized one-to-one guidance.

The well-structured event was met with enthusiasm by all participants. Staff expressed a keen interest in seeing more such activities in the future, as they not only offered a chance to immerse in rich cultural experiences, but also provided relaxation and immense joy. The combination of cultural enrichment and stress relief was unanimously appreciated, making the event a resounding success.
