The English Language Centre (ELC) delivers mandatory and elective courses to all students in BNBU. During their first and second years of study, students attend English classes each week to help prepare them for the language requirements of academic study. Then, students can select from a range of more specialised free elective courses to continue their study of English.
The ELC's objectives are:
1. To enhance students' English proficiency to a level appropriate for university study;
2. To equip students with the relevant communicative skills for use in academic, business, and social contexts;
3. To provide authentic situations for students to develop their proficiency in all four language skills.
To achieve these objectives, the ELC...
provides opportunities for learners to achieve appropriate levels of proficiency in written and spoken communication;
equips learners with the skills required to succeed in their academic studies;
guides learners to develop effective strategies for independent learning;
assists learners to improve their language abilities outside the classroom;
creates a language-rich environment to stimulate learners’ interest in the use of the English language;
follows effective quality assurance mechanisms to ensure equity in learning and assessment;
promotes good teaching practices and advance pedagogical and learning knowledge through formal scholarly activities.
